At the moment, Hamilton is leading with a 1:21.534. Kimi Räikkönen is ill and was replaced with Davide Valsecchi.

Caterham is having mechanical problems again, van der Garde has just stopped, causing the first red flag of the day.

Hamilton with a 1:20.8 now, that's faster than 2011 with the exhaust blown diffusers. Shocked

EDIT: And now he improved to 1:20.558!

A different preseason Barcelona to that discussed above, but here we go...

Reject of day 1 of preseason Barcelona test 2015: Nasr and/or Susie Wolff, for crashing in the early afternoon. Susie had managed 77 laps in the morning session (the highest of anybody) but ended the day on eighty-something. (Thanks also to a suspected oil leak).

Hamilton is ill, Rosberg has a trapped nerve in his neck and McLaren found a faulty seal on the MGU-K and this means they have had to change their whole powertrain which means that it us doubtful that Alonso will do any laps tomorrow.

Well, in the end it looks like the bodge that Honda put together for the team actually worked surprisingly well - the team have completed their most mileage to date and are reported as having put together some fairly competitive times in the process, so perhaps they've turned a corner.

Mind you, the information that is coming through seems to suggest that Mercedes might still have a decent performance advantage - given that neither Hamilton nor Rosberg are at full fitness and they were running on harder tyres, to have been quite close to the top times during a race simulation is pretty decent.

Sounds like a worrying and very strange accident for Alonso - there are reports that he has crashed during testing, and Vettel, who happened to be behind him at the time, is reporting that Alonso seemed to have drifted across the track and run along the inside wall at Turn 4.

At the moment, it sounds as if something has happened to Alonso, rather than the car, which caused him to crash, although the exact nature of what happened is still very unclear and there are a lot of wild rumours flying around. Let's just hope that the team are able to shed a bit more light on the matter soon.

What's more, Alonso has had to go to hospital following this morning's crash. However, this will not affect McLaren too badly in the p.m. session, as Button had already been planned to take over from Alonso after lunch today.

Well, it seems that McLaren were forced to abandon their efforts to get the car ready for Button in the afternoon, as it seems that it was too badly damaged following Alonso's crash for them to repair it in time.

The good news is that it seems that Alonso wasn't injured in that crash, but as a precaution he will stay overnight in hospital for follow up checks and overnight monitoring. It's still unclear, though, what exactly caused the crash - Sainz has blamed the windy conditions today for his crash, which could have also caused Alonso's problems, but we will have to wait and see what he says.
